Grab a black magic marker and color over the inner rim (near the hole in the middle) of the CD.

You're welcome.

up to where?? scary! i have people telling me to color the outer rim, color the inner rim...

and thing is, when i stick it into the Mac, iTunes lets me download the CD info from CDDB and everything and lets me listen to and rip ONE track (the last track) and not the others... it makes my PC grind to a screeching halt, however.

i've tried the coloring thing (over tape, to be safe) but I'm never entirely sure how much i need to color, so i don't know if i'm doing it right. :P

hayulp...

Well, it's very simple once you understand that the space-time is cuuuuuuuuuurved. You see, the first track on a 'protected' CD is made of junk data, not music. Which of course confuses the computer which thinks it's all data and refuses to rip i (or play it).

The first track on a CD, much like on a ye olde vinyl LP (I'm sure you're too young to remember those) is all the way on the inside of a CD near the hole. It is clearly visible as a rim of different color compared to the rest of the cd. Color over that and you're there. It might also be on the outside (near the edges) depending on how they mastered the cd. In any case it's clearly visible and is about 3-4mm thick.

So far I haven't found a 'protected' CD it won't rip, including the ones that are so fscked up they won't play on anything.

Aaaaah.... I went to my Windows machine, turned off the CD autorun, installed FreeRip... and things were looking VERY HOPEFUL.

The CD loaded nicely in FreeRip, and then... refused to allow me to select the tracks for ripping. I simply couldn't click the checkboxes. I'd click and click and nothing would happen and FreeRip would tell me "No Tracks Selected for Ripping!!"

The Force is strong with this CD.

frustrated,

Copy protection is the Dark Side of the Force.

And wot are Jedi FOR?

I ask yew!

Wot's the CD, Yowie?
It might be easier to resort to the Kazaa Lite K++ adn BitTorrent side of the Force, and that's a fact.

Yarr.
